Key Features of Canon iR 2224N Auto Duplex
- Prints both sides automatically with the Duplex Unit-E1 fitted, running 16.7 ipm in A4 duplex, which halves paper use on long reports.
- Feeds originals through the document feeder rather than the platen, so multi-page copying and scanning runs unattended.
- Scans in colour to email, SMB and FTP destinations while printing in black and white, which is the right economics for offices that archive colour documents but print plain text.
- Includes Wireless LAN as standard alongside wired Ethernet, unusual at this price and size, so the machine can sit where the office wants it.
- Handles A3 through to A6 and envelopes from a 100-sheet multi-purpose tray, covering ledgers, drawings and correspondence on one device.
Model Comparison of Canon iR 2224N Auto Duplex
The difference between this listing and the basic iR 2224N is configuration, not model. The engine, speed, panel, memory and network are identical. This version is supplied with the automatic duplex unit and the document feeder in place, and set up for colour scanning; the basic version uses the platen glass, prints one side at a time and is priced lower.
The upgrade earns its cost in two situations: when the office copies multi-page documents daily, and when paper cost matters enough that automatic duplexing pays for itself. An office that copies a handful of single sheets a day will not notice the difference and should take the basic model.
Against the larger imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX 4825, the 2224N is slower, smaller and considerably cheaper, with a simpler monochrome control panel instead of a 10.1-inch touchscreen and no finishing options.
Who Should Buy Canon iR 2224N Auto Duplex
This configuration fits small and medium businesses that need A3 capability without A3 pricing: trading and distribution offices, small manufacturing units printing work orders and drawings, coaching classes and schools, housing societies, and professional practices of five to fifteen people.
It is the right pick when the same machine has to copy a stack of double-sided documents, scan them to email in colour, and still print an A3 sheet when required. Offices printing more than a few thousand pages a month, or needing stapling and heavy paper handling, should step up to the imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX range.
