Within HP's M436 range the engine never changes: all three models print 23 ppm in A4 and 12 ppm in A3 from the same 350-sheet paper path. What differs is fitment, and it is worth being exact because the model codes are easy to confuse.

The M436n is the network model without automatic duplexing and without a document feeder as standard. The M436dn adds automatic two-sided printing. The M436nda adds both automatic duplexing and the reversing document feeder.

So the M436dn saves paper but still requires originals to be placed on the glass one at a time. If your office prints long documents but copies rarely, that is the right trade and this is the model to buy. If originals arrive in stacks, pay the difference for the M436nda, because a duplex printer feeding from a manual glass is a half-solved problem.

A note on consumables: this series ships with an introductory toner cartridge rated at roughly 4,000 pages rather than a full cartridge. Budget for a replacement earlier than you would on a machine supplied with standard toner, and ask us to quote one alongside the machine.

The M436dn fits small offices of roughly five to fifteen people that print steadily, need A3 available, and care about paper cost: accountancy practices, small legal offices, coaching classes, housing societies, and design and engineering site offices printing drawings.

Automatic duplexing is the reason to choose it over the M436n, and it pays for itself in paper within a year in any office printing a few thousand pages a month. With a 50,000-page monthly duty cycle there is plenty of headroom for that band. Offices copying multi-page originals daily should look at the M436nda instead.
