The bizhub 361i and 301i share a chassis, running at 36 and 30 pages per minute with first copies in 4.6 and 5.0 seconds. Memory, storage, controller, paper handling, finishing and security are identical. The duty cycles differ, at 175,000 pages a month against 150,000, and so does typical electricity consumption, at 0.58 kWh against 0.48.

Against the bizhub 306i below it, the gap is wide and worth understanding. The 361i doubles memory to 8 GB, adds a 256 GB SSD as standard, prints at 1,200 x 1,200 dpi rather than 600 x 600, and starts with 1,150 sheets of paper against 350. It also opens up proper finishing, including saddle-stitched booklets, which the 306i does not offer.

One configuration point: automatic duplexing is standard here, but the document feeder is not. You choose between the DF-714 single-pass dual-scan feeder, which scans two-sided originals at 200 images per minute, and the cheaper DF-632 reversing feeder at 80 images per minute simplex. For an office digitising in volume the DF-714 is worth the difference, and we will quote both.

The bizhub 361i belongs on a shared floor or in a departmental print room serving 30 people or more: corporate offices, hospitals, colleges running admission and examination cycles, and engineering and construction practices producing A3 drawings alongside heavy A4 output.

The 175,000-page duty cycle is the number to check against your actual volume. If your office prints a fraction of that, the 306i costs considerably less to buy and run, and its typical electricity consumption is lower. If you need booklet finishing, SRA3 duplexing or scanning at 200 images per minute, none of the smaller bizhub machines will do the job and this is the correct answer.
