Key Features of Konica Minolta bizhub 225i
- Fits a genuine A3 device into a footprint small enough for a corner of a small office.
- Scans in full colour to email, SMB, FTP or a USB stick while printing in black and white, which is the right economics for an office that archives in colour but prints plain text.
- Assigns frequently used functions such as ID Copy and one-touch simplex or duplex to hard keys, cutting the number of presses on repeated jobs.
- Combines several small documents in one pass with Multi ID Copy, putting fronts and backs of business cards onto a single sheet.
- Supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop through CUPS, which few machines in this class do.
Model Comparison of Konica Minolta bizhub 225i
The bizhub 225i is the faster of Konica Minolta's entry A3 pair, at 22 ppm against 20 on the bizhub 205i. Everything else across the two is the same: paper handling, the five-line backlit control panel, colour scanning, security features, fax options and Linux support.
Two pages a minute is a small gap, so the honest guidance is to compare the price difference against the actual benefit. In an office printing a few thousand pages a month nobody will notice it. Where the 225i earns its place is if the price gap is modest and you want the extra headroom.
The more consequential comparison is upward, to the bizhub 306i. That machine runs at 30 ppm, carries a 7-inch colour touch panel and 4 GB of memory, and ships with the document feeder and duplexing fitted as standard. Once you add the DF-633 feeder and AD-509 duplex unit to a 225i, the two configurations come closer in price than the headline figures suggest, so it is worth asking us to quote both.
An important point on configuration: on this series both the document feeder and automatic duplexing are options, not fitted items. The Reverse Automatic Document Feeder DF-633 enables duplex scanning and raises colour scanning to 20 ppm. The Auto Duplex Unit AD-509 enables two-sided printing and copying. A machine ordered without them copies from the glass, one side at a time. Tell us how the machine will actually be used and we will quote the right build rather than the cheapest one.
Who Should Buy Konica Minolta bizhub 225i
Konica Minolta positions the 225i for small workgroups of three to nine people with basic A4 and A3 requirements: professional practices, small trading firms, societies, coaching classes, clinics and branch offices.
The Linux support is worth noting if your office runs anything other than Windows, because Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop are supported through CUPS, which is unusual at this price. If copying is a daily activity rather than an occasional one, specify the feeder and duplex unit up front and let us price that build against a bizhub 306i before you decide.
